Separation Information for Flight Attendants on Furlough

Questions You May Have About the Travel Separation Program Offer

How will travel separations be awarded?
Any flight attendant currently on furlough status who had at least five years of company seniority upon being furloughed will be granted this award.

If I choose to take a Travel Separation, would I be considered an internal or external candidate for future job openings at AA?
Employees who have elected to leave the company as part of a voluntary program (such as the Travel Separation) waive all recall rights they may have.  You will not have automatic reinstatement rights and therefore you would be considered an external candidate for any future positions at AA.  Employees who elect to leave the company as part of the voluntary reduction in force may reapply to AA or another AMR subsidiary.  While consideration can be given to your previous experience with the company, you will be considered as an, and along with, outside candidates for jobs, and you may not apply for positions using the company’s internal Careers system.  You may, however, apply for positions listed on the external Web site: www.AACareers.com.  If you are rehired after voluntarily leaving the company as part of the reduction in force, your Travel Separation status will end immediately and all privileges under the voluntary program will cease.

Can I apply for future jobs at AA?
You may be considered as an external candidate for future job openings. Re-employment is not guaranteed.

Can I take the Travel Separation and then retire?
You will need to contact HR Services/Retirement to receive confirmation on whether you are eligible to retire.  They can be reached at 1-800-447-2000

When can I commence my pension if eligible?
Generally, if you have the required years of credited service in the Pension plan, then your normal Pension Commencement date is at age 60. However, you can commence your pension at age 55 – with a reduced benefit.  If you wish to begin the pension before age 60, you will face the 3% annual reduction, with a maximum of 15%, if you start it at age 55.

When can I start my travel?
It takes up to 48 hours to update all systems after your separation has been processed. Refer to the letter you received from Flight Service detailing the dates for the start of your travel privileges.

What happens to my stock options if I am awarded a Travel Separation?
You will have 90 days from your separation date to exercise unused stock options.  After 90 days, you will forfeit all unexercised options.

Is there any way that my travel privileges could be suspended?
Yes, there are various reasons for this including, but not limited to non-payment of NRSA invoices by their due dates.

Why are parents, registered companions, and A9 passes excluded from the program?
Parents and Registered Companion passes come from annual D3 passes (24 one-way tickets).  The D3 passes are not part of the Travel Separation program.  We did not include A9 passes in this program because they are positive space and remove seats from inventory.

Why isn’t travel on other airlines (OAL) included?
Our agreements with other airlines are based on interline contracts.  These contracts only allow for active employees and retiree travel.

How can I look at flights/loads and make meal listings?
You will have limited access to Jetnet – which includes access to your Traveler List, the TRIP Book and the Non Revenue Travel Planner.  You’ll also have continued access to 888-WE-FLY-AA.

Who can I contact if I encounter problems with the amount I am billed for premium cabin and/or international travel?
You can send an e-mail to NRSA.refunds@aa.com – our Non-Rev Space Available office.

Can I travel in the jumpseat if I elect this Voluntary Travel Separation?
No.

Can I change my decision after being awarded a Travel Separation?
No, you may not change your decision after the award is made. You may make changes to your election as often as you like up until the online election window closes.
